About the Position
Legal Action Worldwide is seeking a skilled and committed Grants and MEAL Coordinator to join its Nairobi based team. This role plays a central part in ensuring that Legal Action Worldwide maintains high standards in grant management, donor compliance, reporting, and organisational learning.
The Grants and MEAL Coordinator will work closely with the Grants and Partnership Manager and Programme Teams to strengthen Legal Action Worldwideโs portfolio of institutional donors. The position supports both existing grants and new funding opportunities, while also contributing to the development of internal systems, tools, and procedures.
This role is well suited to a professional who is detail oriented, organised, and experienced in managing grants within international human rights or humanitarian organisations.

Location: Nairobi, Kenya, with opportunities for field travel
Contract Type: Full time
Duration: 12 months, with possibility of extension subject to funding
Salary: Competitive, based on experience, plus benefits

Key Responsibilities
The Grants and MEAL Coordinator will provide technical and operational support across Legal Action Worldwide in relation to grants management, donor engagement, and MEAL systems.
Grants Management and Compliance
- Oversee grant documentation and continuously improve grants management systems within Legal Action Worldwide
- Lead the organisationโs grants calendar and ensure implementation of grant related procedures
- Coordinate administrative aspects of the grant cycle, including grant openings and closures
- Maintain grants tools, checklists, and databases to ensure accuracy and accessibility
- Map donor rules and regulations and ensure organisational compliance across programmes
- Deliver training and guidance to staff on donor compliance requirements
- Support due diligence processes for donors and partner organisations
Donor Engagement and Reporting
- Ensure timely and high quality narrative and financial reporting to donors
- Coordinate reporting submissions through donor portals where required
- Support donor engagement through research on donor priorities
- Maintain and update donor engagement tracking tools
- Monitor and share relevant funding opportunities across Legal Action Worldwide
Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning
- Lead collection and support analysis of organisational data using internal systems
- Contribute to consolidation of global indicator tracking and MEAL policies
- Support programme teams in developing MEAL plans and evaluation processes
- Strengthen learning practices and data quality across Legal Action Worldwide programmes
Programme and Organisational Support
- Support development of project fact sheets, presentations, and briefing materials
- Coordinate closely with programme teams to support quality delivery and compliance
- Contribute to organisational planning and reporting processes as required
Candidate Profile
Legal Action Worldwide is looking for a professional with strong technical expertise, excellent writing skills, and proven experience in grants and MEAL coordination.

Essential Requirements
- Legal right to work in Kenya
- Masterโs degree in law, international relations, social sciences, or a related field
- At least five years of experience in a similar role within an international organisation
- Demonstrated experience managing EU funded grants, including sub grantees
- Excellent drafting skills with a record of producing high quality reports and proposals
- Strong written and spoken English communication skills
- Solid understanding of donor rules and compliance requirements, particularly European donors
Desirable Experience
- Experience working on legal or justice focused programmes
- Knowledge of consortium management
- Experience working with foundations and trusts
