Key Responsibilities

1. Designing and Leading Research Initiatives

A primary responsibility for the Research and Evaluation Officer is to design and implement research projects that explore the long-term impacts of our work. Because ShelterBox operates in diverse environments from earthquake zones to areas of protracted conflict you will develop frameworks that help the organization identify best practices in emergency shelter. This ensures that the technical choices made by ShelterBox are supported by rigorous data and field-based evidence.

2. Evaluating Program Impact

At ShelterBox, we are not just satisfied with delivering aid; we want to know how that aid changes lives. You will lead evaluations of our responses, analyzing whether the items provided met the specific needs of the families. The Research and Evaluation Officer ensures that ShelterBox remains accountable to its donors and, most importantly, to the communities we serve. Your evaluations will provide the basis for strategic adjustments in how ShelterBox deploys resources in future emergencies.

3. Data Collection and Analysis

High-quality data is the lifeblood of our MEAL strategy. The Research and Evaluation Officer will oversee data collection processes, often working with local partners and field teams. You will use both qualitative and quantitative methods to gather insights. By analyzing this data, you will help ShelterBox identify trends, successes, and challenges. This analytical work ensures that ShelterBox can demonstrate its value to stakeholders through clear, data-driven narratives.

4. Knowledge Sharing and Learning

The insights generated by the Research and Evaluation Officer are only valuable if they are shared. You will be responsible for producing high-quality reports, briefings, and presentations that communicate findings to various departments within ShelterBox. You will also represent the organization in humanitarian forums, sharing our learning with the wider sector. Promoting a culture of learning within ShelterBox ensures that every team member can benefit from the evidence you uncover.

5. Collaboration and Partnership

Our organization rarely works alone. You will collaborate with academic institutions, other NGOs, and local implementing partners to broaden our research reach. The Research and Evaluation Officer acts as a bridge between technical experts and field staff, ensuring that research is both academically sound and practically applicable. This collaborative spirit helps ShelterBox stay at the forefront of innovation in the shelter sector.
