Overview:
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Project Coordinator to lead the anticipated project, “Scaling the Last Mile Delivery of Immunization Services: Reaching the Missed Community in Ethiopia.” The initiative focuses on deploying and scaling innovative Indigo cold storage backpacks to strengthen vaccine delivery and immunization coverage, especially for zero-dose and under-immunized children in remote and conflict-affected areas.

Role Summary:
The Project Coordinator will oversee the overall management and day-to-day implementation of project activities. This includes planning, monitoring, and evaluating the use of Indigo Backpack cold chain technology, coordinating with government bodies and research partners, and ensuring compliance with IRC and donor standards. The coordinator will facilitate collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH), Regional Health Bureaus, and key stakeholders, while managing project logistics, financial reporting, and risk mitigation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead daily project coordination and ensure timely execution of activities according to approved work plans.
  • Oversee deployment and evaluation of Indigo Backpack cold chain technology.
  • Support operational research, evidence generation, and the development of a national roadmap for scale-up.
  • Coordinate procurement, importation, and deployment of equipment in collaboration with MoH and other government agencies.
  • Organize workshops, co-creation sessions, and validation meetings with government, donors, and partners.
  • Maintain comprehensive project records, including meeting minutes and decision logs.
  • Monitor outreach services to ensure effective vaccine delivery in selected sites.
  • Serve as the focal point for communication with government and research partners, fostering collaboration, transparency, and accountability.
  • Ensure compliance with IRC safeguarding, ethics, and operational standards.
  • Coordinate financial and grant management activities, including budget tracking and reporting.
  • Support Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) by contributing to dashboards, performance summaries, and learning reports.
  • Identify project risks and propose mitigation strategies to ensure smooth implementation.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nursing, Medicine, or a related field; Master’s preferred.
  • Minimum of 6 years (BSc) or 4 years (MPH/MSc) of progressive project coordination experience within international NGOs, particularly in immunization, cold chain, or health programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in vaccine systems strengthening, cold chain management, and implementation research.
  • Strong record of managing multi-partner initiatives and supervising field teams.
  • Experience working with the Ministry of Health, research institutions, and international donors such as Gavi, Gates Foundation, USAID, WHO, and UNICEF.
  • Excellent project planning, organizational, analytical, and time-management skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office and project management tools.
  • Fluency in English and Amharic; knowledge of additional local languages is an advantage.
