Job Overview
The Netherlands Red Cross (NLRC) is seeking an experienced and highly organised Project Coordinator to join the Water, Climate & Environment (WCE) team within the International Assistance division. This role is based in The Hague, Netherlands, and is a fixed-term position with prospects of extension based on performance and funding. The Project Coordinator will strengthen the operational, administrative, and financial management of key projects in NLRC’s Water, Climate & Nature (WCN) portfolio.
NLRC’s WCN portfolio focuses on climate resilience, nature-based solutions, water security, and sustainable WASH systems. As climate and environmental risks grow more complex, the Project Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring that project implementation is coherent, accountable, and aligned with strategy and donor requirements. This role supports technical specialists so they can focus on content and innovation while you ensure strong operational performance.

Key Responsibilities
The Netherlands Red Cross (NLRC) Project Coordinator will:
Operational and Financial Coordination
- Manage the day-to-day operational, administrative, and financial aspects of WCN projects for which the WCE unit is budget holder.
- Support budget development processes, monitor expenditure, and identify variances, delays, and reallocation needs as they emerge.
- Keep comprehensive and up-to-date records of project performance, risks, bottlenecks, and mitigation measures.
Product and Service Portfolio Management
- Coordinate the development and maintenance of the WCN product and service portfolio in close collaboration with technical specialists and team leads.
- Ensure alignment of projects and associated products with the NLRC international strategy and promote effective use by country teams and partners.
- Maintain a clear overview of portfolio items, identifying synergies and opportunities for integration across projects.
Communication and Collaboration
- Facilitate effective collaboration between WCE experts and NLRC Country Teams, ensuring project activities are well planned, budgeted, and implemented in line with organisational policies and ways of working.
- Serve as a central operational contact point across technical, finance, PMEAL and quality teams to coordinate reporting, monitoring, and overall project quality assurance.
Documentation and Compliance
- Ensure that contracts, documentation and financial files are complete, timely, and archived according to NLRC standards.
- Support compliance with NLRC internal policies and external donor regulations, including risk management standards.
- Contribute to knowledge products, case studies, and documentation of best practices emerging from WCN projects.

Professional Qualifications
The successful candidate will meet these core requirements:
- A relevant academic background such as social sciences, development studies, communication, public health or related field.
- At least five years’ professional experience in project or product coordination roles, including knowledge of project cycle management, financial monitoring, reporting and compliance standards.
- Proven experience within humanitarian organisations; experience working with Red Cross or Red Crescent National Societies is a strong asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work remotely and collaboratively with diverse, multicultural teams.
- Experience coordinating multi-stakeholder partnerships or inter-unit collaboration across various teams and locations.
- Fluency in English with good working proficiency in Dutch; knowledge of French is a positive advantage.
- Strong skills in data and document management systems.
