The inaugural Session of the Zimbabwe-Zambia Bi-National Commission (BNC) entered its second day in Harare, bringing together ministers from both countries to strengthen bilateral cooperation and explore new areas of collaboration.
The Ministerial Meeting follows discussions by senior officials who co-chaired the preparatory session, focusing on reviewing progress under existing agreements. The ongoing talks cover key sectors such as trade, investment, infrastructure, energy, and social cooperation.
The elevation of the long-standing Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation to a Bi-National Commission marks a new chapter in relations between the two neighbouring states. It reflects their shared determination to build on historic bonds forged through liberation struggles and decades of partnership.
Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema is expected to arrive in Zimbabwe on Friday to co-chair the BNC alongside President Emmerson Mnangagwa. The leaders are expected to endorse several frameworks aimed at improving regional integration, trade facilitation, and cross-border investment.
Zambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Honourable Mulambo Haimbe, said the meeting highlights the deep friendship, mutual respect, and shared aspirations that have long defined the relationship between the two countries.
Zimbabwe and Zambia also share vital assets such as the Kariba Dam, Victoria Falls, and key transport corridors that support trade and tourism across Southern Africa. Strengthening cooperation in these areas is expected to bring practical benefits for both economies and the communities that depend on these shared resources.
As both nations work to align their development goals, the BNC provides an important platform for strategic dialogue and joint action. It signals a renewed commitment to shared prosperity, regional stability, and sustainable growth within the Southern African region.
