Purpose of the Job
As an apprentice in the Sasol Learner Artisan Millwright program, you will undergo intensive training and development to become a qualified Millwright. This development is structured according to the stringent requirements of the relevant SETA (QCTO) and the National Artisan Moderation Board (NAMB). This role is designed for individuals who are eager to learn the technical complexities of plant and mine maintenance while maintaining the high safety standards expected at Sasol.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
The Sasol Learner Artisan Millwright will be integrated into the maintenance team and will be responsible for several key areas during their training:
- Technical Competence: You will develop proven competence in pre-identified areas across various disciplines including plant, mine equipment, and technical systems.
- Maintenance Systems: Learning to understand and use the plant maintenance documentation system and planning work management systems is a core part of the Sasol Learner Artisan Millwright role.
- Safety Compliance: You must ensure total compliance with Safety Management Systems (e.g., IMS, MBO). This includes the ability to apply emergency procedures and implement task risk assessments.
- Operational Participation: Participating in daily morning meetings to discuss work assignments and providing adequate feedback to supervisors on work progress is essential.
- Problem Solving: The Sasol Learner Artisan Millwright will participate in root cause analyses (RCA) and provide feedback to teams to improve plant stability and safety.
- Housekeeping: Adhering to waste disposal procedures and maintaining good housekeeping standards on-site.
- Personal Development: Identifying personal training needs and incorporating them into a Personal Development Plan (PDP) in collaboration with a group leader.

Formal Education and Requirements
To qualify for the Sasol Learner Artisan Millwright program, candidates must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Education: A completed Matric, N3, or an equivalent qualification.
- Subject Requirements: You must have achieved a pass in Mathematics, Physical Science, and English.
- Experience: This is an entry-level apprenticeship; therefore, 0 to 1 year of relevant experience is required.
- Attributes: We are looking for “Nimble Learners” who can manage complexity and demonstrate high levels of self-awareness and accountability.
