The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has announced the opening of applications for the Industrial Future’s Talent Initiative (IFTI). This prestigious early-career professional program is designed to strengthen UNIDO’s talent pipeline by recruiting dynamic young professionals from non-represented Member States, particularly those in the Global South.
The Industrial Future’s Talent Initiative offers a 24-month journey (initial 1-year contract) where participants gain hands-on exposure to technical cooperation, industrial policy, and global sustainable development goals at UNIDO Headquarters in Vienna, Austria.

Program Pillars and Professional Growth
Participants selected for the Industrial Future’s Talent Initiative will be integrated into technical or corporate units, contributing to the organization’s mission of inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID).
Key components of the program include:

Functional Responsibilities
Under the Industrial Future’s Talent Initiative, the Project Associate will perform high-level administrative and technical support duties:
- Data Analysis: Compiling background information on economic, environmental, and social factors relevant to industrial sectors.
- Reporting: Drafting briefing notes, presentations, and project progress reports.
- Project Monitoring: Utilizing SAP Portfolio and Project Management modules to track KPIs, milestones, and risks.
- Event Coordination: Supporting the organization of study tours, missions, and global learning events.

Eligibility and Minimum Requirements
To maintain the diversity goals of the Industrial Future’s Talent Initiative, strict eligibility criteria apply regarding age and nationality.
- Age: Must be between 23 and 28 years old at the time of application.
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field.
- Experience: At least two (2) years of professional experience in technical cooperation, industrial development, or economic competitiveness.
- Nationality: Must be a citizen of one of the designated non-represented Member States (including Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, Iraq, Thailand, Bahamas, Jordan, and many others listed in the official announcement).
- Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory.
Remuneration and Benefits
UNIDO provides a comprehensive package for participants of the Industrial Future’s Talent Initiative:
- Stipend: Approximately EUR 4,000 per month.
- Travel: Economy-class air travel allowance to and from the duty station in Vienna.
- Health: A 50% subsidy on medical insurance premiums.
