Fellowship Benefits and Living Environment
The recipient of the Einstein Fellowship will reside in the garden cottage of Albert Einstein’s summerhouse in Caputh, Brandenburg. This historic location offers a serene environment for deep thought and research, while remaining conveniently close to the major academic and cultural hubs of Potsdam and Berlin.
In addition to the living accommodations, the fellow receives:
- A stipend of 10,000 Euros to cover living and project expenses.
- Reimbursement of travel expenses to and from Germany.

Eligibility and Project Requirements
The Einstein Fellowship is not intended for the completion of existing academic studies or dissertation research. Instead, it serves as a catalyst for new, distinct projects.
1. Age and Education: Candidates must be under 35 years of age at the time of application and hold a university degree in the humanities, social sciences, or natural sciences. It is not mandatory to hold a PhD to apply.
2. Project Scope: The proposed project must be significantly different in content, field, and form from the applicant’s previous work. Successful applications must demonstrate the quality, originality, and feasibility of the idea, as well as the applicant’s ability to defend their project in a public setting.
3. Public Presentation: At the conclusion of the six-month period, the fellow is expected to present their findings or the progress of their project in a public talk at the Einstein Forum and the Wittenstein Foundation.

Application Package and Submission
To be considered for the Einstein Fellowship, all documentation must be submitted in English. The application package must include:
- A Comprehensive CV.
- A Two-Page Project Proposal: This should outline the research question, methodology, and why the project represents a departure from previous work.
- Two Letters of Recommendation: These can be submitted directly by the applicant or sent via email by the referees.
Deadline for 2026 Intake: All documents must be received by May 15, 2026. The selection process, including interviews, typically begins in June, with final decisions announced by late July.
