The Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) is inviting applications for the Law Society of Zimbabwe Intern programme under its Registry and Information Management department. This structured internship is designed to provide practical exposure to legal records administration, information governance, and registry operations within a professional regulatory environment.
The Law Society of Zimbabwe Intern will work directly under the supervision of the Registry Officer, supporting day-to-day administrative and documentation processes. The role is ideal for graduates seeking experience in legal information systems, archival management, and structured registry operations within a statutory body.
The internship runs for a period of six (6) months and is based in Harare, Zimbabwe. In addition to registry duties, the intern will also provide clerical and administrative support to the Risk Management Unit.
The Law Society of Zimbabwe Intern programme is structured to build technical competence in records handling, classification systems, and institutional documentation workflows. It also provides exposure to legal sector administrative systems governed under the Legal Practitioners Act.
Key Duties and Responsibilities of the Law Society of Zimbabwe Intern
The successful Law Society of Zimbabwe Intern will be responsible for supporting the efficient management of institutional records and ensuring proper documentation handling across departments. Duties include assisting with the sorting, indexing, filing, and retrieval of both physical and electronic records.
The intern will support database maintenance by updating internal registry systems and ensuring accuracy of information across member and firm records. Responsibilities also include opening new files for members and law firms, verifying documentation completeness, and maintaining structured filing systems.
The Law Society of Zimbabwe Intern will also handle document circulation within the organisation, ensuring that correspondence is delivered to the correct departments and individuals. Archiving duties include boxing, indexing, and securely storing inactive records in line with retention policies.
Additional responsibilities include retrieving archived files upon request, preparing records for disposal or transfer, and maintaining master lists of archived documentation. The role also includes library-related duties such as cataloguing, shelving, spine-labelling, and assisting with classification of information resources.
The intern may also be assigned general administrative support tasks as required by the Registry team.
Qualifications and Skills Required
Applicants for the Law Society of Zimbabwe Intern role must possess a Diploma or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Library and Information Science or Information Management. Candidates should also have 1 to 2 years of experience in information management, registry systems, or related administrative environments.
Strong computer literacy is required, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. The role requires high attention to detail, strong organisational ability, and good written and verbal communication skills. Candidates must also be physically capable of handling manual filing, lifting boxes, and working in a structured registry environment.
