The SAIIA Climate Finance Researcher role supports high-impact research on climate finance, adaptation funding, energy policy, and the just transition. The successful candidate will contribute to both ongoing projects and future funding development initiatives.
Role Purpose and Programme Focus
The SAIIA Climate Finance Researcher position focuses on advancing research in climate finance and policy, with particular emphasis on adaptation finance, mitigation strategies, and loss-and-damage frameworks. The role also supports country-level climate platforms and just transition initiatives across Africa.
The SAIIA Climate Finance Researcher will work closely with the Programme Head to deliver research outputs, support stakeholder engagement, and contribute to the organisation’s fundraising and policy influence agenda.
Key Responsibilities
▪ Conduct desktop and field-based research on climate finance and energy policy
▪ Contribute to reports, policy briefs, and academic-style publications
▪ Support fundraising through proposal development and donor engagement
▪ Assist in coordination of projects, workshops, and stakeholder events
▪ Present research findings to internal and external audiences
▪ Monitor developments in climate finance, adaptation, and loss & damage
▪ Support stakeholder mapping and policy engagement across Africa
▪ Contribute to dissemination of research via media and digital platforms
Required Qualifications and Experience
Applicants for the SAIIA Climate Finance Researcher position must hold a Master’s degree in climate finance, economics, political science, energy policy, climate policy, or a related field.
Candidates should have 3–5 years of relevant professional experience in research, policy analysis, or related sectors. Strong writing, analytical, and communication skills are essential.
Experience in fundraising or donor engagement is advantageous, as is familiarity with African regional policy networks and climate governance systems.
