Key Responsibilities
The Medical Laboratory Scientist will collect blood and non-blood specimens, assess specimen quality and suitability for testing, and ensure accurate identification of patient samples before analysis.
The successful candidate will perform routine and high-complexity laboratory assays using both manual and automated testing platforms, validate laboratory results against established reference ranges, and investigate any abnormal or inconsistent findings.
Additional responsibilities include participating in external quality assurance programmes, maintaining compliance with ISO 15189 standards, supporting continuous quality improvement initiatives, and adhering to laboratory safety procedures for handling biological specimens.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants for the vacant position should possess a Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences together with a valid Practising Certificate.
Candidates should have between one and two years of experience working as a Medical Laboratory Scientist and demonstrate sound knowledge of laboratory testing procedures, quality assurance systems, laboratory safety protocols, and the handling and transportation of biological specimens.
Key Competencies
The ideal candidate should be able to work independently while managing varying workloads and maintaining high levels of accuracy.
Applicants should be willing to work long and irregular hours, including night shifts, and possess strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of laboratory safety practices and biological specimen handling is essential.
