📋 Core Responsibilities and Project Scope
The Geological Engineer will play a central role in the technical success of the underground mining project. The Great Dyke presents unique geological complexities, and the successful candidate will be responsible for translating site data into actionable resource models.
- Resource Estimation: Utilizing industry-standard geological modeling software to provide accurate resource estimates and updates for the PGM project.
- Underground Mapping: Leading the geological mapping of underground workings to identify structural features, reef thickness, and grade variations.
- Mineral Exploration: Designing and supervising exploration programs to expand the known resource base and improve the confidence levels of the current mineral inventory.
- Production Support: Providing critical geological input to the mine planning and production teams to optimize extraction and minimize dilution.
- Data Integrity: Maintaining high standards for the collection and storage of geological data, ensuring all information is compliant with international reporting codes.
🎓 Qualifications and Requirements
GPR is seeking a Geological Engineer who combines technical academic training with practical, “on-the-rock” experience in the mining industry.
- Academic Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a closely related field is mandatory.
- Industry Experience: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in mineral exploration or mine production geology, specifically within underground environments.
- Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated experience in resource estimation and the use of modern geological modeling software is essential for this role.
- Professional Status: Accreditation with a local engineering institution, such as the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers (ZIE), will be considered a significant added advantage.
- Mobility: A valid Driver’s License is required to facilitate travel between the Harare head office and the Selous mining site.
