📋 Key Responsibilities & Scope

The Executive Director will manage a broad portfolio that encompasses both student-facing initiatives and rigorous administrative oversight. Note: The scope of this role includes significant financial and operational management.

Strategic & Financial Oversight

  • Resource Deployment: Managing working capital and deploying financial resources effectively to support student success initiatives.
  • Financial Reporting: Producing accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, and Board reports for the department.
  • Budgetary Leadership: Recommending budgeting parameters and translating departmental strategies into measurable financial metrics.
  • Cost Control: Conducting variance analysis and investigations to drive cost control and efficient resource allocation.

Operational & Administrative Leadership

  • Audit & Compliance: Coordinating with internal/external auditors and ensuring that all departmental activities meet regulatory and quality standards.
  • Policy Development: Reviewing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and finance policies with Executive approval.
  • Tax & Statutory Duty: Overseeing departmental tax computations and ensuring timely statutory submissions.
  • Project Management: Delivering financial input and strategic reporting for special university projects as assigned.

Team & Student Success Management

  • Performance Management: Leading, training, and mentoring the finance and student affairs teams through recruitment, supervision, and appraisals.
  • Capital Oversight: Reviewing capital expenditure proposals to ensure they offer maximum value to the student experience.

🎓 Qualifications, Experience & Attributes

WUA is seeking a strategic leader with a deep commitment to inclusive education and organizational transformation.

  • Academic Credentials: An earned Master’s degree in Education, Higher Education Management, Student Affairs, Counselling, Psychology, or a related Management discipline. A PhD is a significant advantage.
  • Leadership Experience: A minimum of five (5) years in higher education, with at least three (3) years at a senior leadership level (Student Affairs, Institutional Strategy, or Student Success).
  • Core Competencies: * Proven capability in change management and organizational transformation.
    • Expertise in student engagement frameworks and wellbeing initiatives.
    • Data-driven decision-making skills and the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
