Core Responsibilities: Operational Readiness & Fleet Health

The Geo Pomona workshop manager oversees the entire lifecycle of the company’s mechanical assets, focusing on maximum availability and cost-efficiency.

1. Fleet Maintenance & Technical Oversight

  • Specialized Fleet: Oversee the repair and servicing of refuse trucks, skip trucks, loaders, excavators, forklifts, and generators.
  • Diagnostics: Lead the troubleshooting of complex mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults.
  • Maintenance Programs: Develop and enforce both preventive and corrective maintenance schedules to minimize equipment downtime.

2. Operational Leadership & HSE

  • Staff Supervision: Manage a multidisciplinary team of mechanics, welders, electricians, and technicians.
  • Safety Compliance: Enforce occupational health and safety regulations, including the proper use of PPE and conduct of regular toolbox talks.
  • Environmental Stewardship: Ensure the responsible disposal of hazardous workshop waste (oils, batteries, tyres) in accordance with environmental laws.

3. Financial & Inventory Control

  • Budgeting: Prepare maintenance budgets and analyze expenditure reports to ensure resource utilization is cost-effective.
  • Procurement: Coordinate the procurement of high-quality spare parts and consumables while managing inventory and tools.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements

The Geo Pomona workshop manager should be a results-driven individual with a strong background in heavy industrial operations.

  • Academic Qualification: A Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Professional Certification: Class 1 Journeyman certification or an equivalent artisan qualification is considered a significant advantage.
  • Relevant Experience: * Minimum of 5–8 years in fleet or heavy equipment maintenance.
  • At least 3 years must be in a supervisory or management role.
  • Sector Knowledge: Experience in waste management, mining, logistics, or construction is highly preferred.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to conduct downtime analysis and fleet performance reporting.
