The role is designed for a detail-oriented professional who can seamlessly integrate clinical nursing expertise with strict aseptic protocols, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients and surgical teams throughout the entire operative lifecycle.
Core Responsibilities and Clinical Deliverables
The portfolio for the Operating Theatre Nurse spans pre-operative preparation, intra-operative assistance, and immediate post-operative recovery monitoring.
1. Perioperative Patient Care & Planning
- Care Implementation: Developing and executing structured, individualized nursing care plans for assigned surgical patients.
- Patient Preparation: Preparing patients for surgical interventions, including the precise clinical cleaning, shaving, and disinfecting of operative body areas.
- Physician Orders: Executing all physician and surgeon directives, administering prescribed medications, and performing specialized treatments or pre-op tests in a timely manner.

2. Operating Room Management & Sterilization

- Theatre Preparation: Setting up the operating suite with required surgical instruments, advanced equipment, sterile linens, and procedural consumables prior to surgeries.
- Equipment Stewardship: Ensuring the proper use, calibration, sanitization, and handling of delicate surgical equipment to preserve structural integrity and staff safety.
- Inventory Control: Assisting in the auditing, ordering, secure storage, and replenishment of specialized surgical equipment and medical supplies.
3. Interdisciplinary Coordination
- Team Synergy: Maintaining continuous, clear communication lines with the anaesthetist, scrub team, circulating staff, and recovery room practitioners to meet real-time patient needs.
- Turnover & Cleanliness: Ensuring the absolute order, decontamination, and clinical cleanliness of the operating room environment between surgical cases.
