The Urban Futures Project, a global multi-hub initiative managed by Hivos and implemented locally by Green Governance Zimbabwe in partnership with regional consortium boards, has launched an active call for applications. Young women and men operating businesses within the regional agrifood sector are invited to register for the Urban Futures Project Entrepreneurship Masterclass. Headquartered within the urban and peri-urban trade zones of Mutare, this high-impact, multi-module capacity-building incubator is engineered to strengthen local food systems, promote youth well-being, and catalyze local climate action.
The launch of this Urban Futures Project masterclass addresses the structural bottlenecks that routinely limit young agribusiness operators from expanding their enterprises. By translating complex commercial compliance guidelines into practical, field-adapted business development modules, the program transitions informal youth-led food startups into competitive, capitalized, and standard-compliant operations. The learning journey culminates in a live, competitive pitching showcase where qualifying young innovators can secure seed subgrants directly through the global fund to scale their production baselines and improve urban food security.

The Hivos Urban Futures Project selection panels seek entries from youth-led enterprises working across diverse nodes of the climate-resilient food value chain, specifically focusing on the following functional segments:
1. Primary Production & Climate-Smart Agriculture

2. Value Addition, Processing & Specialized Packaging

Selected youth champions will undergo an intensive capacity-building program delivered by institutional experts and independent industry consultants. Selected participants are expected to attend all modules, which cover:

- Standards & Compliance: Step-by-step training on pathways to securing certification with the Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ).
