This includes analyzing independent power producer (IPP) contracts, drafting regulatory amendments for renewable energy frameworks, and assisting with board secretarial administration.


Key Training Rotations and Professional Exposure

1. Legal Advisory, Opinion Formulation & Risk Control

  • Opinion Writing: The successful ZERA Graduate learnership candidate will focus on Conducting exhaustive research into statutory provisions, administrative precedents, and energy policies to draft definitive legal opinions for executive teams.
  • Risk Management: The successful ZERA Graduate learnership candidate will focus on Compiling and updating the Legal Department’s operational risk register, identifying potential institutional vulnerabilities, and tracking mitigation steps.
  • Legal Awareness: The successful ZERA Graduate learnership candidate will focus on Co-facilitating internal workshops to keep technical departments updated on environmental compliance, public safety laws, and regional energy treaties.

2. Commercial Contracts, Negotiations & License Reviews

  • Contract Management: The successful ZERA Graduate learnership candidate will focus on Assisting in the formal negotiation, structural drafting, and legal review of commercial contracts, joint ventures, and international agreements.
  • Tender Evaluations: The successful ZERA Graduate learnership candidate will focus on Reviewing procurement protocols and evaluating public-private partnership (PPP) tenders to ensure compliance with national procurement laws.
  • Licensing Compliance: The successful ZERA Graduate learnership candidate will focus on Reviewing statutory license applications submitted by independent power producers, fuel retail networks, and solar micro-grid operators.

3. Corporate Secretarial Support, Litigation & Legislative Drafting

  • Board Administration: The successful ZERA Graduate learnership candidate will focus on Executive secretarial duties, including drafting agenda briefs, arranging logistics for board panels, and writing precise board minutes.
  • Litigation & Prosecution: The successful ZERA Graduate learnership candidate will focus on Assisting corporate counsel with case preparation, gathering evidence, compiling briefs, and monitoring active civil litigation or regulatory enforcement cases.
  • Legislative Drafting: The successful ZERA Graduate learnership candidate will focus on Contributing to the analysis, drafting, and amendment of structural regulatory codes, petroleum industry bylaws, and renewable energy standards.
