NICO Asset Managers Limited, a leading investment and asset management company within the NICO Group, is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Chief Executive Officer to provide strategic leadership and drive business growth.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the successful candidate will oversee the companyโ€™s strategic, financial, investment, operational, and commercial performance while strengthening its position within the asset management and financial services sector. The Chief Executive Officer role is based in Blantyre, Malawi.


About the Chief Executive Officer Role

The Chief Executive Officer will be responsible for developing and executing the companyโ€™s strategic direction, improving investment performance, strengthening client relationships, ensuring regulatory compliance, and building a high-performing organisational culture.

The successful Chief Executive Officer candidate will provide executive leadership across investment management, financial performance, corporate finance, governance, risk management, business development, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Business Direction

The Chief Executive Officer will:

  • Lead the development and execution of NICO Asset Managers Limitedโ€™s strategic business plan in alignment with the broader NICO Group strategy.
  • Identify long-term strategic priorities, market opportunities, and growth areas.
  • Strengthen the companyโ€™s competitive positioning within asset management, investment, and corporate finance sectors.
  • Translate strategy into annual operating plans, performance targets, and measurable execution priorities.
  • Create synergies within the NICO Group to support business growth and client value creation.

Investment Management & Client Value Creation

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing executive oversight of investment management activities, client mandates, and investment performance.
  • Ensuring client funds are managed prudently and professionally in line with approved mandates and regulatory requirements.
  • Reviewing investment reports and ensuring accurate reporting to clients, the Board, and governance structures.
  • Identifying investment opportunities that enhance client returns and business growth.
  • Promoting a strong fiduciary culture that protects client interests and strengthens trust.

Financial Performance & Commercial Growth

The successful candidate will:

  • Drive sustainable revenue growth, profitability, and shareholder value.
  • Oversee budgeting, financial planning, expenditure control, financial reporting, and revenue assurance.
  • Monitor business performance against approved budgets and implement corrective measures where required.
  • Lead business development initiatives, including client acquisition, retention, proposal development, pitches, and negotiations.
  • Strengthen institutional client relationships and expand market reach.

Governance, Risk & Regulatory Compliance

Key duties include:

  • Ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, licence conditions, and governance requirements.
  • Overseeing renewal and maintenance of operating licences.
  • Ensuring preparation and submission of Board reports, regulatory reports, financial statements, and governance documentation.
  • Managing regulatory inspections and maintaining strong relationships with regulators.
  • Strengthening institutional governance and risk management practices.

Corporate Finance, Alternative Investments & Product Innovation

The CEO will:

  • Provide leadership over corporate finance and alternative investment opportunities.
  • Oversee infrastructure project appraisals, funding proposals, and investment-related solutions.
  • Support development of innovative investment products and services.
  • Ensure corporate finance activities are commercially viable and well governed.
  • Drive expansion of offshore investment offerings into new markets.

Organisational Leadership & Stakeholder Management

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading and developing a high-performing executive and management team.
  • Strengthening organisational structures and performance management systems.
  • Promoting professionalism, accountability, collaboration, and ethical conduct.
  • Managing relationships with the Board, NICO Group, clients, regulators, and strategic partners.
  • Ensuring effective day-to-day operations across the organisation.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should possess:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • Masterโ€™s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification or equivalent investment management professional qualification.
  • Minimum of 10 yearsโ€™ senior management experience in investment management, asset management, corporate finance, or a related financial services environment.
  • Experience within a regulated financial institution will be advantageous.
  • Strong financial modelling, investment appraisal, portfolio analysis, and transaction evaluation capabilities.
  • Deep understanding of investment products, financial markets, regulators, pension funds, institutional clients, and capital markets institutions.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body will be an added advantage.
