About the ECPMF Internship

The ECPMF Internship is designed for students and recent graduates who are passionate about journalism, media freedom, democracy, and human rights. Interns will support the Media Freedom Rapid Response project by assisting with event coordination, communications, stakeholder engagement, and project reporting.

Although the role is remote, interns must be available to travel to Brussels between 11 and 13 October 2026 to support the delivery of the annual MFRR Summit. All travel expenses for the summit will be covered by the organisation.

Working alongside experienced professionals, interns will gain valuable insight into European media policy, journalist protection programmes, advocacy campaigns, and international project management.

Key Responsibilities

During the ECPMF Internship, the successful candidate will assist with planning, coordinating, and delivering the annual MFRR Summit, including logistics, participant coordination, travel arrangements, and on-site event support in Brussels. The intern will also contribute to gathering and editing content for reports produced after the summit, helping document discussions and key recommendations arising from the event.

Communications will form a significant part of the internship. Responsibilities include preparing digital content, drafting updates, assisting with social media campaigns, developing event materials, and supporting communication with journalists, media experts, policymakers, and partner organisations across Europe. The role also involves supporting financial administration by assisting with reimbursement processes, monitoring event-related expenditure, and maintaining accurate project documentation for donor reporting requirements.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants for the ECPMF Internship should have a strong interest in journalism, media freedom, human rights, and European affairs. Candidates should be studying journalism, communications, political science, European studies, history, human rights, media studies, or another closely related discipline. Applicants must demonstrate excellent written and spoken English, strong organisational abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an international environment.

Previous experience in event organisation, logistics coordination, or budget tracking will be considered an advantage. Candidates should also be comfortable communicating professionally through email and telephone and willing to travel to Brussels during October 2026. To qualify, applicants must either be enrolled at a German university or university of applied sciences, or be between their Bachelor’s and Master’s studies.
