About the Program Officer Role

Key Responsibilities
The Program Officer will be responsible for supporting project implementation and technical delivery across multiple international climate programmes. Responsibilities include:
- Developing and monitoring project work plans and implementation schedules.
- Coordinating technical working groups, meetings, consultants, and project partners.
- Supporting grant management, donor reporting, and compliance with funding requirements.
- Participating in the preparation of grant proposals and funding opportunities.
- Drafting technical reports, research papers, guidance documents, and communication materials.
- Developing greenhouse gas inventories, mitigation assessments, and climate-related analyses.
- Creating and delivering climate capacity-building and MRV training programmes.
- Managing technical service agreements and coordinating project consultants.
- Building and maintaining relationships with governments, donors, and international partners.
- Representing GHGMI through presentations, publications, blogs, and stakeholder engagements.
- Identifying opportunities for programme improvement and operational efficiency.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants for the Program Officer position should possess:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Economics, Public Policy, Climate Science, International Development, or a related field.
- Three to five years of relevant experience supporting climate change, greenhouse gas accounting, MRV, or international development projects.
- Experience supporting donor-funded international projects.
- Strong analytical, planning, and organisational skills.
- Excellent technical writing and report preparation abilities.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work independently within a remote international environment.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Willingness to travel internationally.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with:
- Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
- Experience implementing the Paris Agreement or Enhanced Transparency Framework.
- Experience preparing greenhouse gas inventories and mitigation assessments.
- Knowledge of carbon markets and adaptation measurement.
- Experience designing technical training programmes.
- Familiarity with greenhouse gas accounting software and MRV tools.
- Experience managing international consultants and multidisciplinary teams.
- Successful grant proposal development experience.
- Fluency in French, Spanish, or another United Nations language.
