The organisation focuses on research, strategy design, M&E systems, gender programming, and development assessments across sectors such as agriculture, livelihoods, WaSH, SRHR, GBV, education, ICT4D, financial inclusion, and emergency response.
The CRD Social Researcher role is offered as either Research Assistant or Research Officer, depending on experience, academic background, and interview performance. The position sits within the Research and Evaluation unit and reports directly to the Deputy Manager โ Research & Evaluation.
Role Purpose and Work Context
The CRD Social Researcher will support the design and execution of research studies, evaluations, and field assessments across multiple development sectors. The role requires strong analytical capability, field research competence, and the ability to work in both structured office environments and remote field settings.
CRD operates in multiple countries including Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Nepal, India, Ghana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Lesotho, and Sri Lanka. The CRD Social Researcher will therefore contribute to projects funded by international development partners including UN agencies, USAID, the European Commission, and bilateral donors. This position is central to strengthening CRDโs evidence-based programming and research output quality.

Core Research Responsibilities
The CRD Social Researcher will contribute to end-to-end research processes including proposal development, tool design, data collection, analysis, and reporting. Key responsibilities include developing research proposals and drafting structured research reports in professional English. The role also involves designing digital data collection tools using platforms such as KoboToolbox and SurveyCTO, ensuring that field instruments are aligned with research objectives and methodological standards.
The researcher will participate in fieldwork activities including FGDs, KIIs, IDIs, and community scorecard exercises. This includes direct engagement with communities, stakeholders, and target populations across diverse geographic contexts.
A significant part of the role involves transcription and translation of qualitative data from field notes, interviews, and case studies into structured English documentation suitable for analysis and reporting. The CRD Social Researcher will also support training and workshop documentation, including preparing meeting minutes, observation reports, and training summaries.
Fieldwork, Coordination and Data Management
This role requires extensive field engagement. The CRD Social Researcher will supervise enumerators, coordinate data collection teams, and ensure quality assurance during field operations.
The position also includes responsibility for monitoring field progress, ensuring adherence to research protocols, and resolving operational challenges during data collection exercises.
Candidates must be comfortable travelling to remote and hard-to-reach areas and working under field conditions for extended periods.
Required Qualifications and Skills
Applicants for the CRD Social Researcher position must hold a Masterโs degree in Sociology, Social Work, Anthropology, Gender Studies, Political Science, Economics, Development Studies, Education, International Relations, or related social science disciplines.
Candidates should have at least 6 months of research experience for Research Assistant level or 2 years for Research Officer level. Strong written and spoken English skills are required, along with the ability to transcribe and translate qualitative research materials accurately. Technical skills in data analysis using MS Excel, SPSS, STATA, or NVivo are highly desirable.
