The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) is accepting applications for the ISS Dakar Junior Fellow position based in Dakar, Senegal. The opportunity is designed for young professionals interested in peace, security, governance, and regional affairs in West Africa and the Sahel. The successful candidate will join the ISS Regional Office and work under the supervision of a Senior Researcher on projects that support policy development and evidence-based research.
The ISS Dakar Junior Fellow programme provides practical experience in research, policy writing, event coordination, and regional security analysis. The selected fellow will contribute to ongoing projects while gaining exposure to international research methods and public policy discussions.
Key Responsibilities
The successful ISS Dakar Junior Fellow will assist with background research and support the design and implementation of desk and field research projects. The role includes contributing to workshops and conferences organised by the Institute and preparing reports following these engagements.
The fellow will also prepare meeting minutes, monitor political and security developments across the region, and present weekly reviews to the research team. Under the guidance of a Senior Researcher, the ISS Dakar Junior Fellow will write policy articles and undertake additional assignments that contribute to the objectives of the programme.

Qualifications and Experience
Applicants for the ISS Dakar Junior Fellow position must be nationals of Senegal and be under the age of 30. Candidates should hold a Master’s degree in anthropology, sociology, politics, law, history, international relations, or another relevant discipline.
Strong organisational skills, reliability, and the ability to work independently are important for the role. Applicants should demonstrate an interest in peace and security, governance, terrorism, and violent extremism.
The Institute also expects candidates to have good computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet applications. Knowledge of Prezi is an advantage. Applicants must be fluent in either French or English, while proficiency in one or more local languages will strengthen an application.
