The Presidential Climate Commission (PCC), an independent multistakeholder advisory body, is inviting applications from experienced governance professionals for the position of Secretary to the Commission based at its offices in Rosebank, Johannesburg.
The Secretary to the Commission will play a critical role in protecting the integrity of the Commissionโs governance framework and ensuring the effective operation of its governance structures. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the successful candidate will provide strategic governance advice, compliance support and high-quality secretariat services to the Commission and its committees.
The position is equivalent to that of a Company Secretary and requires a professional who can strengthen governance systems, improve decision-making processes and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and governance standards.

Role Responsibilities
The Secretary to the Commission will provide strategic governance, compliance and administrative support to ensure the effective functioning of the PCC and its governance structures. The successful candidate will ensure that the Commission complies with statutory obligations relating to reporting, accounting and governance processes. The role will also involve recommending improvements to governance practices and supporting commissioners in maintaining high standards of accountability and transparency.
A key responsibility will be supporting the appointment process for Commissioners, including coordinating nominations, facilitating assessments and ensuring appointment procedures comply with the Climate Change Act. The role will include coordinating the Commissionโs annual calendar of meetings and events, working with commissioners and Secretariat members to ensure effective planning and communication.
The successful candidate will prepare and quality-assure meeting agendas, coordinate meeting logistics, provide procedural and governance guidance during meetings, draft minutes and resolutions, and monitor implementation of decisions. The Secretary to the Commission will also oversee record management processes, ensuring that reports, minutes and governance documents are securely stored, backed up and appropriately published where required.
Additional responsibilities include supporting the Deputy Chairperson and Commissioners with scheduling, correspondence, travel arrangements and administrative coordination.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants for the Secretary to the Commission position should possess a Bachelorโs Degree in Public Administration, Law, Paralegal Studies or a related discipline at a minimum NQF Level 7. Candidates must have at least eight yearsโ relevant post-qualification experience, including at least two years in a senior management role and/or board secretariat environment.
The ideal candidate should have proven knowledge of corporate governance, compliance requirements and public sector processes. Strong written English skills, particularly the ability to draft accurate meeting minutes and governance documents, are essential. Applicants should also demonstrate strong administrative capabilities, computer literacy and experience engaging with senior stakeholders including government institutions, international organisations and strategic partners.
Key Competencies
The successful candidate should demonstrate strong attention to detail, professionalism and the ability to work under pressure. The role requires excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build consensus among diverse groups and support effective implementation of Commission decisions.
Candidates should be self-motivated, capable of working independently and able to coordinate complex governance processes while maintaining confidentiality and accuracy. Experience in project management, coordination and governance improvement initiatives will be advantageous.
