The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) is hosting an intensive, in-person training program titled “Narratives on Climate Change and Migration.” This initiative, part of the SUCCESS project, aims to revolutionize how media professionals in the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) region report on human mobility. Instead of oversimplified “crisis” stories, this training empowers journalists to produce nuanced, evidence-based accounts of resilience and adaptation.
The ICIMOD Journalist Training program focuses on the complex intersections of climate science, livelihoods, and ethics, equipping reporters with the tools to challenge common myths and ground their work in the lived experiences of vulnerable communities.

The ICIMOD Journalist Training Learning Objectives and Expected Outputs
This ICIMOD Journalist Training is designed to move journalism beyond fear-based framing and toward a rights-based understanding of climate mobility.

Expected Outputs
- Ethical Coverage: ICIMOD Journalist Training Improved skills in “myth-busting” and ethical reporting on vulnerable populations.
- Story Publication: Participants are expected to publish or broadcast at least one story in local, national, or international media by December 2026.
- Community of Practice: Connection to a professional network of 25–30 regional journalists and experts.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria
The ICIMOD Journalist Training is specifically tailored for media professionals within ICIMOD’s working areas: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Pakistan.
- Experience: Early to mid-career freelance or staff journalists with 2–4 years of experience.
- Focus: Regularly reporting on environmental issues or climate change.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in photography, video shooting, and basic editing.
- Commitment: Must be available for 100% of the training duration and motivated to join a long-term network of climate reporters.
- Inclusion: Women and candidates from marginalized communities are strongly encouraged to apply.

ICIMOD Journalist Training selected participants will have all direct costs including international airfare, visa processing, accommodation, and food covered by ICIMOD.
